Update from Lindsey Starborn


Hi all

Well, we’ve been working away in the background on our 1000 Creations Exhibition planned for September in NeST Gallery, The Witham Hall and (potentially) St Mary’s C. of E. Church. All venues are great spaces for art and are a short distance from each other in the historic and beautiful market town of Barnard Castle.

With over 70 expressions of interest from artists in many different genres we’re really looking forward to seeing what you will exhibit, how you use the ancient skills and how the heritage of the Gospels will inspire you all!

As you know it is a very broad theme, for some I’m sure it will be reflecting and celebrating the landscape, St Cuthbert, Celtic/ Christianity and the amazing art of illumination. For others there may be a 21st century interpretation or conscious utilisation of ancient arts, skills and crafts.

Some terms and conditions you should be aware of:

1.      Acceptance into the exhibition will take place through a virtual vetting panel drawn from the facilitators of the exhibition and including representatives of the host venues. You are welcome to send in your images of work you wish to exhibit as soon as possible but no later than June 28th 2013. These images could be “work in progress” or “similar” by agreement with the facilitators) e-mail these to Lindsey@lindseystarbornart.com  to enable circulation by email to the vetting panel.

2.      Please submit up to 6 images or your website address. If you are unable to do either then please contact me as soon as possible.

3.      You will be informed as soon as possible and no later than July 18th 2013 of the vetting outcomes.

4.      The size and type of your work will determine how it is displayed and how many pieces could be appropriately displayed.

5.      Whilst we can’t guarantee the venue your work will be exhibited in, we would like to know your preference.

6.      You should be aware that commission for NeST and The Witham is 40%. The Church exhibition may be by private contact with the relevant artist or it may be a non selling venue. We will let you know as soon as possible.

7.      With your acceptance will be an Agreement form for you to complete. This will list your work, medium, price and reference (Your initials, number of piece and price e.g. LS3£225 on a label firmly stuck to the back or underside of the work)

8.      Following confirmation we will need an artist statement– this can be brief but should be descriptive of you and your work, it would be helpful if you could describe how the exhibition or your work is or has been influenced by our heritage and the Lindisfarne Gospel stories. This is intended to fit on an A5 laminated paper and will be displayed beside your work. Please send a photograph of yourself to include as a thumbnail with this information!

9.      Our previews at NeST are well attended, made all the more successful by all the wonderful artists who spread the publicity and attract guests from near and far. The preview over these venues promises a great evening but we will have to ask artists for a small contribution to the events. We anticipate that £3 from each exhibiting artist should cover costs. This should be paid when delivering your work for the exhibition (More details about this later!)

Dates for your diaries

 

Set up of exhibition:          27&28th August 10.00a.m. – 5.00p.m.

Private Viewing:                29th Aug 6.00 p.m. - 9.00 p.m.

Take down of exhibition:  25th September 2013.  100a.m. – 4.00p.m.

N.B. We will not have any storage facilities so your work must be collected on the 25th Sept.

We have developed social media sites as a start of our publicity/marketing of the event and will be posting pictures, doing mini articles about, sharing work in progress.
